How Many Dudes? 2026 Launch Needs Tier — Not Fake S–F
Honest 2026 launch tier for How Many Dudes?: Control, Sustain, Damage, and Economy needs — not an unsupported S–F power table. Pair roles with the 42-Dude roster and launch team shells.
2026 Launch Needs Tier — Not Fake S–F
There is not enough current, controlled evidence for an honest S–F Dude power ranking. For the launch 1.0.5 line, the useful "tier list" is a needs tier across four axes: Control, Sustain, Damage, and Economy. A Dude is high priority when it fills the function your current roster lacks, and low priority when it duplicates a solved function without strengthening its trigger.
This page was checked August 3, 2026 against the official Dudex and patch notes. It does not convert demo opinions or one player's endless-run result into a universal launch ranking. Name lookup: all 42 Unique Dudes. Shells: launch team shells.
Four axes at a glance
| Axis | What it solves | Example Dudes (from Dudex) |
|---|---|---|
| Control | Enemy focus, Blocks, Taunts | Knight, Pirate, Psionic, Construction, Spartan, Paladin, General |
| Sustain | Healing, HP transfer, recovery | Medic, Cleric, Chef, Explorer, Ghost, Quantum, Mutant, Frankendude |
| Damage | Clear plan / trigger | Ninja, Samurai, Wizard, Trooper, Cyborg, Hacker, Mummy, Viking, Druid, Ranger |
| Economy | End-of-battle income | Finance ($3 Dividend per Finance Dude after each battle) |
Names and Families for every Unique Dude live on the complete roster.
Needs tier 1: Control + Sustain (keep the team alive)
These functions usually deserve first consideration when they are missing:
- Reliable enemy attention (Control): Knight periodically Taunts five nearby enemies. Pirate opens by Taunting four, Psionic opens by Taunting five, and Construction can Taunt with Hammer Toss.
- Damage sharing or interception (Control): Paladin Blesses two Roster Dudes, reduces their damage taken, and transfers part of the remainder to himself. Spartan can Block Direct Damage aimed at nearby Dudes.
- Frequent sustain (Sustain): Medic heals the three most-injured Roster Dudes after dealing enough cumulative damage. Cleric creates a healing Pulse every two seconds at the most-injured Roster Dude.
- Alternative sustain (Sustain): Chef stores Burgers, Explorer refills Canteen sips, Ghost equalizes and heals two HP extremes, Quantum heals through Echoes, Mutant creates Floofballs, and Frankendude donates HP.
A second healer is not automatically better than the missing damage or control slot. "Needs tier 1" means high draft priority only when the function is absent.
Needs tier 2: Damage (establish a plan)
Choose one or two engines whose triggers can be supported:
- Crit engine: Ninja turns Direct Crits into bouncing Shurikens.
- Finisher: Samurai dashes to the lowest-HP enemy every three seconds.
- Periodic area damage: Wizard casts Fireball; Trooper calls Orbital Strikes.
- Repeat-hit scaling: Cyborg Direct Damage can stack Attack Power for all Cyborgs.
- Burst storage: Hacker banks Exploits, while Mummy stores Doom on targets.
- Attack-speed pressure: Viking can enter Berserk; Druid enters Bear Form after repeated Direct Damage hits.
- Ranged follow-up: Ranger can fire Magic Arrows at distant enemies.
No entry here is "S tier" without the Relics, Trinket, stats, and protection that let its trigger operate. Turn a chosen engine into a five-slot shell on the builds page.
Needs tier 3: amplify, reposition, or Economy
These picks can be excellent once the basic combat loop works:
- Bard temporarily grants Attack Power and Run Speed to random Dudes after repeated Direct Damage.
- Manager stores part of four Interns' damage and expels it onto a chosen target.
- General commands the Dude Type immediately below him on the Roster to Taunt.
- Cowboy repositions a distant Roster Dude with Lasso; Alien forces a neighboring Roster type toward the lowest-HP enemy.
- Finance (Economy) generates $3 per Finance Dude after each battle.
- Time, Agent, Dentist, Farmer, and other utility Dudes can solve specific positioning, mitigation, or sustain problems that a generic ranking hides.
A practical draft priority
- No one controls enemy focus? Draft Control or protection.
- Dudes die through sustained pressure? Draft Sustain or damage transfer.
- The roster survives but cannot clear? Draft a coherent Damage trigger or duplicate the current core.
- The combat shell is complete? Add amplification, repositioning, or Economy.
- A pick requires a Relic you do not have? Treat it as a plan, not as current power.
Why community tier lists conflict
Launch-adjacent player posts disagree about Wizard, Samurai, Ninja, healer priority, and the best late-run pairs. They also cover different beta/live builds and different goals such as reaching round 100, pushing endless rounds, or collecting stars. The final pre-release beta added or changed Dudes, Trinkets, Food, and class interactions. Without a shared patch, unlock state, run mode, endpoint, and repeated sample, an S–F table would be decorative rather than reproducible.
